thirty-first jump;
CHARACTERS: Any and all.
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond.
WARNINGS: Maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: There is something very easy about waking from the gravcouches this month. The sensation of being watched is absent, and so is much of the sickness - even for those characters who entered Engineering in February. Instead the jump feels comfortable, the stasis fluid warm on your skin, the medbay lights not too harsh as you emerge amongst your fellow passengers. The sensation may be unnerving in its strangeness, but there will be a deep feeling of being well-rested, calm and content, that will not be completely lost no matter how much you question it.
----------------
You wake up in darkness.
There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.
You are not alone.
There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.
After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.
If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.
This is your welcome party.

no subject
[He lets out a little chuckle.]
Though I am quite sure you are aware of that.
[He has to smile a bit bigger then. Her smile is good to see--the blushing as well.]
I think that would be a good thing, indeed. I would like to meet anyone you hold in high esteem.
no subject
Every now and then, it is good to be reminded. There are things I regret not having been able to say to my father before fever took him.
[ oh no why is he doing this. ]
Have you met the Princess Nuala, as well? I reside with her in the gardens.
[ casually deflecting away from the topic of the cute boy who makes her blush, thank-you. ]
no subject
[Yet another thing they have in common. But on a happier subject, he chuckles.]
Aye, of course. I reside in the gardens as well, with Thranduil, though it was not always as such.
[Before Kili left, he had not been there.]
no subject
Mine fell in a river and contracted a fever a year past. You again have my deepest condolences for your losses, sir.
[ her expression eases a little. ]
His Grace is most kind. I reside nearby with the Princess Nuala and Lady Galadriel.
[ it is far better than being alone. she wouldn't be able to handle an empty room of her own right now. ]
no subject
[It is a horrible thing, to lose a parent. When she speaks of who she lives near, he shakes his head.]
To think we lived so close together, and I did not know.
I moved in with Thranduil, after Kili left us. I have to say I'm still not used to sleeping in trees. My people live under the ground, not above it.
no subject
[ elizabeth's glance is a quiet one. ]
You were not the only one who knew it not. I have been with the Princess since the flets were built.
[ she nods once, empathically. ] Nor I. My people live in buildings of stone.
But before this, I had not been outdoors in some time. I saw it from a window.
[ for the most part, really. her father's death changed many things for the worse. ]
no subject
[He smiles a little.]
It...I am happy that you are able to spend time within the air, here, and with the green grass, even if it is not the same as it would be at home.
[He knows that he should not tarry much longer. He is enjoying their conversation, but he knows that he always tired of company, even wanted company, after some time, when dealing with Kili's own coma.]
I am sorry--I am sure you wish some more time with your mother. But I will go and find someone to help me ensure her pod is protected. [As he promised.]
no subject
[ she nods slowly. ]
At home I might only glimpse the outdoors from a window. This place has given me much freedom I had lacked. I thank you, sir.
[ she pauses, frowning. ] Do you not wish to do the same?
[ spend time with her mother. she is gauging him, carefully assessing to see whether he is simply attempting to replace her father or if he honestly cares for her mother. so far, he seems nice-enough. ]
I trust that you will do that whether it is now or later this day. But if you wish to stay a while, I do not mind.
[ especially since the goo is starting to harden and set into her hair and ew. having someone to watch her mother while she takes care of that in the shower would be great. ]
no subject
I...I do, but she is your mother.
[And Elizabeth has a greater right to her time, than Fili does. He...he honestly has not admitted his feelings to anyone, but they don't truly matter, as long as Elizabeth (the elder) is safe]
Thank you, then.
[He smiles softly.]
I shall stay then, for a bit longer.
no subject
[ she shakes her head. elizabeth is wary, and not because he is not a very nice man. simply put, she is a teenager who wants to ensure that her father's place is never taken; he cannot be replaced.
but if he wishes to create his own place at her mother's side, then she will not begrudge that in the least. she is not at all wishing to deny her mother happiness while she is here, if it might be found.
as elizabeth is realizing that she might have found a little of her own here with one of her friends, she will be glad if her mother has done the same. so long as her father hold his own spot which will never be filled by another. his loss still stings like a war-wound must. but she knows he had only ever wanted her mother's happiness.
so she smiles faintly at fili through her sorrow and confusion, and shakes her head again. ]
Of course. You are welcome to stay as long as you like.
[ that makes her glad. it is good to see that her mother has such a fine friend who will defend her. ]
I shall excuse myself to clean up, then. If you wish to speak further when I return, we may.
[ and she makes sure not to shut him out as far as she is personally concerned, too. she presses a kiss to the tips of her fingers and splays her hand across the reflection of her mother's still face upon the glass and whispers softly: ]
Take care, Mama. I love you. [ then she glances back at fili. ]
I shall trust in you to keep her safe until I return, then.
[ and then she turns to go and wash this goo off of herself before it sticks. ]
